Sherwin Williams 2017 Colormix by Elise Walker

The new buzzword in commercial design is “resi-mmercial”- the blending of residential and commercial design. We are seeing more and more companies wanting their office to feel more “home-like”. We want to get our employees back into the office, out of the home and coffee shops, in order to create a more unified, collaborative culture. The best way to do this is to start with color. We look to Sherwin Williams to help define these trends and help us bring the home into the office.

In Mid-September, the Scott Rice design team attended the Sherwin Williams Color-Mix, a CEU that unveiled the color forecast for 2017. The palettes that they created this year really reflect the trends in design, pop culture, and society as a whole.

“The state of color has never been more restless. New spirituality, cultural flux, feisty self-expression, and soulful nostalgia are combining to paint an emerging portrait or our shared future”.

These are the four color palettes:

Noir: night; refuge from urban streetlights; turning inwards; appreciating quiet and melancholy to recharge our spirit.

“this palette is rich with vine-ripe fruits, Nordic blues, moody neutrals and golden yellows”

Holistic: sustainable design, radical transparency; “doing good is the new looking good”; healing retreats and eco-travel.

“the roads of this journey are lined with arctic neutrals, blush rose, and wild browns”

Intrepid: seamless commerce and collaboration; fluid identity; drive for political and social change starts with the individual; “you do you”

“there’s a feisty energy to our present moment, arriving in fiery tones and vibrant, kimono colors”

Unbounded: global immigration, coexistence; citizens of the world; crafted, customized.

“Global consciousness is a mural painted in earthy mustards, ocean blues, corals and mud”.
