Prioritizing Workplace Issues

Discovery Exercise:

Organizations strive to bring their people together with a shared purpose, in a place that delivers what users want and need. While this goal sounds simple, it can be difficult to articulate workplace priorities.Informed by Steelcase research and insights, the discussion begins with a review of issues affecting leading organizations. Participants prioritize the issues that affect them the most.

The Experience

A cross-functional group of participants rank workplace issues individually, either in-room or online. Results are aggregated and Steelcase facilitators help leaders build shared priorities through a discussion of the top workplace issues.

Workshop Results

Leaders gain alignment around their top workplace priorities and build a shared vocabulary to articulate goals to employees and facilities professionals. Steelcase identifies space implications at a macro level

This exercise is offered in two formats:

1) Poster & Discussion: 12-25 participants, 1-2 hours

2) Survey & Discussion: 6-10 leaders, 10 minute survey, 1-1.5 hour discussion

User Experience

There is a clear correlation between employee engagement and business performance, yet few organizations know how to effectively encourage user adoption of new workspaces. We can help you capture “the swing vote” and offer experience and information that give your employees something great to talk about.

Steelcase helps leaders support strategic shifts in the workplace, easing the transition to new spaces and types of work, by crafting intentional user experiences at every step of the design process: before, during and after your next project. We can help align the right teams within your organization and create a plan that your team can own and execute from.

The Experience

Steelcase facilitates a conversation regarding the benefits of proactively engaging users. Participants continue with an interactive work session where ideas, activities and consulting services are discussed and prioritized. A range of user experience elements are selected to implement throughout the project.

Work Session Results

Leaders gain a deeper understanding of user and stakeholder needs throughout a strategic design process. An aligned action plan includes activities, ownership and timelines to engage users in a meaningful way.

This exercise is offered in two formats:

1) Conversation: 4-7 leaders, 1.5-3 hours

2) Work Session: 4-7 leaders, 2.5-4 hour discussion

Workplace Reflections

It’s tempting to assume that the workplace is working as intended. User feedback about their work experience can identify space utilization, strengths and opportunities.

Steelcase offers a forum for end users to identify what’s working and what’s not working in their space. A structured feedback loop with end users can inform and amplify the approach to a project or pilot space.

The Experience

Participants identify how their current space is used to help them accomplish their work. Steelcase facilitators prompt users to reflect on their floorplan and share experiences, opportunities and perceptions.

Workshop Results

Leaders gain a better understanding of the overall workplace performance. Steelcase identifies the settings that users value, use patterns and opportunity areas.

Discussion, 4-6 users, 30 minute tour, 60 minute workshop

Workplace Snapshot Satisfaction Survey

The Satisfaction survey is an employee survey, developed in collaboration with global research firm Ipsos, that measures workplace satisfaction, a strategic lever that can positively impact employee engagement within an organization.

In this survey, employees will be asked a series of questions related to their work environment. The questions cover topics of Wellbeing, Choice + Control and Time Lost. Results can be compared against the results of Steelcase’s global study of more than 14,000 office workers by global or country average.

The survey takes approximately 5-8 minutes to complete and can be used for pre and post occupancy measures.

Sample letter of introduction:

“As an organization, we are trying to better understand how the work environment can reinforce culture and advance business results. We recognize that the places where people work can influence not only productivity, but also impact employee engagement. Next week, you will receive an email invitation to participate in an anonymous, employee survey that measures satisfaction with the workplace. We encourage you to take the survey in order to help us understand if there are changes that could be made to better accommodate your needs. All responses will be anonymous. Thank you in advance for your participation.”

The results may identify areas for improvement in an effort to enhance experiences at work.

Survey: minimum of 25 participants, no max, 5-8 minutes
