Scott Rice is happy to welcome Lydia Travis to the Education Team! She will be joining us as the new Director of Education Solutions! Here’s a little bit about her:
Hello! My name is Lydia Travis. I grew up in the lively one stoplight town of Valley Center, KS, a small northern suburb of Wichita. I attended Kansas State University where I received a degree in Interior Design with a minor in Monday night karaoke at Kite’s Bar & Grill. Someone once recognized my friend and I as “those girls who sing Total Eclipse of the Heart every week” and that’s when we knew we had made it big!
During my years at K-State I worked as a reference assistant at Hale Library, where I met my now husband, Brent. We dated for seven years before getting married, which finally happened during a rain-soaked ceremony in September 2016. Still shaking my fist at Mother Nature for that one.
Brent is a librarian and works for UMKC. We are both avid readers and have a ridiculously huge collection of books in our home. Growing up, Belle was my favorite Disney princess solely because: have you seen that library that the Beast gives her? Want. That. We’re not there yet, mostly because we don’t have the ceiling height for it (which means no cool library ladders, bummer), but we’re working on it!
We recently purchased a tiny 100 year-old house in the Hyde Park neighborhood of KCMO that we share with our smelly, slobbery (yet adorable) Boxer, Gatsby. Brent and I both enjoy the outdoors, so in the summer months we often spend our weekends camping, kayaking or hiking in Missouri or Arkansas. And I love gardening so if you want to talk plants, I’m your girl.
I also enjoy traveling and try to plan an overseas adventure every couple of years. In college, I participated in a study tour of Italy and France, and later visited Ireland and England. Most recently Brent and I ventured to Spain and Portugal and now have our sights set on Iceland.
I am very excited to join the Scott Rice team and thrilled at the opportunity to focus on education spaces. I know this is a great group, and I am looking forward to getting to know each of you!
