Tell us a little bit about yourself: Hello, I am Joe Wolnik. I grew up in a small Missouri town of St. Clair.  It is a rural area along the Meramec River and enjoyed growing up in the country.  I moved to Kansas City from Cape Girardeau, Mo. I met my wife Mary in Cape. We have one son, Bryan.

What is your role at SR:  My current position is project manager. I started here at Scott Rice 33 years ago as an installer and even had a brief stint in the sales arena.
Before working here, what was the most interesting job you held:  After attending Southeast Missouri State University, I was hired on as a deckhand on a Mississippi River towboat. I was in training to be a riverboat pilot.  This involved steering the towboat up and down the river and making tow (barges). I would work 30 days on the boat alternating with 30 days off. Lots of free time to travel and ride my motorcycle.
Hobbies/interests outside of work: I ride and restore my classic 1978 BMW motorcycle. We enjoy traveling, camping, canoeing, and riding my motorcycle.

Favorite movie/book:  My favorite movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Great classic with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. Favorite books: Blue Highway by William Least Heat Moon & Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig.
Hidden Talents? Being able to assess and fix mechanical things. Not afraid to tackle home remodel projects. YouTube is a great help.
Greatest Achievement: Being married to Mary for 37 years and seeing Bryan graduate from Kansas State University with a Mechanical Engineering Degree.
What is your most treasured possession? My 1978 BMW motorcycle. This is my one and only bike that was purchased in 1979.
What did you want to be when you grew up: I never really have thought much about this as I have always taken the road least less traveled to see where I would end up. It has led me here to Kansas City and Scott Rice.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?  Somewhat of a rhetorical question. I can live without a lot of things, but most important to me is my family, Mary and Bryan.
